Shane Smith serves as assistant professor of physician assistant studies. He currently works in the Ballad Health system as a trauma surgery, critical care, and acute care surgery PA. His previous experience includes working in Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care. Prior to becoming a physician assistant, Shane worked as a pharmacy tech, medic, and flight medic in the United States Army, and he has served in multiple roles in several different deployed theaters around the world. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants.
Shane earned his Doctor of Medical Science from University of Lynchburg. He attended PA school with Springfield College in Springfield, MA. Shane is also a National Registered Paramedic. He is originally from east Kentucky and enjoys seeking out challenges and spending time with family.
Shane and his wife Sharon have 1 adult son and attends Jonesborough United Methodist Church in Jonesborough, TN.
