Resources

Activity Fee

All graduate students in on-campus programs pay a $100 student activity fee per semester. This includes full access to Gilliam Wellness Center, use of the Counseling Center, health clinic services, athletic and special events, etc.

Athletics

All Milligan students are admitted free to regular season home athletic events with a valid Milligan ID. Milligan University has a proud heritage of top student-athletes participating in competitive intercollegiate athletics. Visit milliganbuffs.com for team schedules

Gilliam Wellness Center / Intramurals

GPS students are eligible to use the University’s fitness equipment in the Gilliam Wellness Center, fieldhouse, tennis courts, pool, and other facilities during scheduled hours and with valid Milligan ID. This is included in the activity fee for graduate students. Distance students (MBA, MSIS, MACM, DMin) may pay a usage fee of $60 for July-December usage and $60 for January-June. Graduate and adult students also are encouraged to participate in Intramural sports.

Campus Minister

Milligan University has a full-time campus minister to help meet the needs of faith development in the campus community. Contact Rich Aubrey or call 423.461.8748.

Campus Security

Milligan University contracts with a professional guard service to provide after-hours security. Between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. daily, contact security at 423.461.8911 or 423.791.4292. These individuals conduct inspections of campus buildings and patrol the campus throughout the night.

Security personnel have authority to enforce campus traffic policies, to request identification of any person on campus and to escort unauthorized persons from campus if necessary, to detain persons in violation of the law, and to fulfill such other responsibilities as may be appropriate in the performance of their duties.

Campus security officers are equipped with cellular telephones to provide direct access by the community during the hours on duty. Officers are also equipped with two-way radio communication with the city police department to enlist their assistance should the need arise. Any crimes and/or thefts should be reported immediately to Campus Security.

Information relative to the Federal “Student Right to Know Campus Security Act” (Public Law 101-542), Federal “Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act” and Tennessee “College and University Security Information Act” is available in the Office of the Dean of Students. This information includes campus crime statistics, Campus Security policies and procedures, and a drug-free policy statement.

Career Services

Career Services aids students and alumni by helping to provide opportunities for a fulfilling life through services designed to prepare participants for graduate studies and/or a rewarding career or profession. Counseling

The Milligan Counseling Center is equipped to provide short-term counseling services without charge and is offered at the Taylor House, second floor. Counseling services are available by appointment and are offered at various times throughout the week (Monday through Friday). To schedule an appointment for counseling, please contact the Milligan Counseling Center at 423-461-8500.

Dining Options

Commuters and graduate students may eat in the Dining Hall (Sutton Hall) or Grill (Student Center) during regular hours. Disabilities

The Rehabilitation Act of 1974 (Section 504) states that qualified students with disabilities are entitled to reasonable accommodations. If you require services, contact the Director of Disability Services (DDS). For more information, visit Disabilities.

E-mail Policy

For official communication, including any communication from Milligan offices or Milligan faculty to students, the e-mail address issued by Milligan University will be the only e-mail address used.  Notices sent by official Milligan e-mail will be considered adequate and appropriate communication.  It is incumbent on students to check their official Milligan e-mail regularly. 

Emergency Alert System

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up (free) for the RAVE Alert mass notification system, which sends instant text and email alerts about emergency and crisis situations, including weather‐related schedule changes.

Sign up here once you have received your Milligan ID and login information. After opening the link, click on Register and enter your network ID (for students this is the ID you received containing the first four letters of your last name followed by four numbers; for faculty and staff this is your Milligan username) and password. From there you can follow the steps to complete your registration for the types of notifications you wish to receive.

If you have problems registering for the service or have any questions, please contact the IT Help Desk at 423.461.8704 or ITHelpdesk@milligan.edu. Please consider registering for this service, as it provides the fastest and most efficient means of communication possible in any potential emergency situation. The only messages sent through this system are emergency information and weather‐related schedule changes. If at any point you wish to be removed from the notification list, text STOP to 67283 or 226787 from your registered phone.

Financial Aid & Payment

All financial aid processes should be completed and the remaining balance paid before the first day of class. Course schedules will be cancelled for students who have not have not submitted immunization records, all applicable transcripts, and completed ALL financial aid processes AND paid the balance due by the first day of class. Health Clinic

The Health Clinic is located in the Gilliam Wellness Center. Health services include health and physical assessment, treatment of minor injuries and problems, and referral to local physicians or other appropriate health care providers. The University recommends all students have basic insurance protection for medical expenses. If a medical emergency is imminent, call 911 immediately.

Milligan University recommends that all students be covered by health insurance while enrolled. If you are already covered by a group policy, you must furnish the name of the company and policy information on the Health and Immunization Record. You must complete and sign the front page of the form and have a physician complete and sign the back page indicating the dates of the required two doses of the MMR vaccine. International students must also meet the TB testing requirements. The other vaccines are recommended. Housing will not be assigned until this information is submitted to Health Services.

Immunizations & Health Insurance

All students are required by law to submit a completed Health and Immunization Record prior to attending classes. In compliance with the Tennessee State Department of Health and the immunization guidelines of the American College Health Association, Milligan University requires all students to provide documented proof (physician’s signature) of having received:

  • Two MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccines, or proof of immunity, for all students born after 1956
  • Two varicella (chicken pox) vaccine, or proof of immunity/disease, for all students born after 1979
  • Meningococcal Vaccine — All new undergrads less than 21 must provide proof of a single dose of MCV 4 administered on or after the 16th birthday (OR) if 21 or older, a single dose of MCV 4 administered within the past 5 years.
  • All international students are required to provide proof of Tuberculosis test (PPD) within the past twelve months prior to Registration, as well as proof of chest x-ray and treatment as indicated.

Mailing Address Policy

All students are responsible for keeping their permanent home mailing address and current local postal mailing address up-to-date with the University. Students may update their address in Self Service or by providing changes to the Registrar’s Office.

Maintenance Issues

Any maintenance issues of campus property, whether in classroom facilities or housing village, should be directed to the Milligan Physical Plant by completing an online maintenance request form at www.milligan.edu/workorder.

Microsoft Office & Computer Support

Parking

Open parking begins daily at 3:00 p.m. At all other times, commuters are to park in the following locations only:

  • Lower lot behind Student Center
  • Faculty Office Center lot
  • Canyon parking lot located between Seeger Chapel and Steve Lacy Fieldhouse

The use of a vehicle on campus is a privilege extended to the University community. Each motorized vehicle must be registered with the Student Development Office at the time you register for classes or in the Student Development Office after registration. Please have the following information when you register: license tag/plate number, color, make, model, and year of your vehicle(s). There is a $100 fine for not registering a vehicle or not displaying a sticker.

Each vehicle driven/parked on campus must be registered. Operators of these vehicles are expected to learn and follow the driving/parking policies on campus (outlined in the Student Handbook). Violators of these policies are subjecting themselves to significant fines and loss of vehicle privileges. Fines range from $20 to $100. All tickets must be paid in the McCown Cottage Business Office. Receiving more than ten tickets can result in the loss of driving privileges on campus.

Photograph Release
From time-to-time our students and employees may be identified or photographed for publication, broadcast, transmission and/or electronic display by the news media or University public relations officials. Unless a written statement to the contrary is filed with the Office of Student Development at the beginning of the semester, students and employees of Milligan University waive their model rights to be photographed for the University’s print and online publications without prior notice.

Post Office Information

To receive mail on-campus, you must rent a PO Box online. Mail is not delivered to residence halls. Any regular mail addressed to students and received by the University will be returned to sender.

Release of Information

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) stipulates the guidelines by which the University makes decisions in regard to the release and use of student records. A copy of this Act may be obtained in the Student Development Office. Milligan follows the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act in releasing any information.

Only directory information, such as name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received, and the most previous educational agency or institution attended by the student is released without the student’s consent.  Students may file a form in the Registrar’s Office if they wish to be excluded from the directory. The directory is for use within the University. Anyone outside the University who desires student information is directed to the Registrar.

Safety & Security

Campus safety and security are of utmost importance to Milligan’s faculty, staff, and administration.  The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which contains important information regarding campus security policies and procedures, as well as the reporting and information required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act,  the Tennessee College and University Security Information Act of 1989 and the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act  is available on the safety and security section of the Milligan website at milligan.edu/life/health-safety/ Paper copies of the report are available from the Director of Security/Title IX Coordinator (423.461.8740) or the Dean of Students Office (423.461.8760).  See “Emergency Alert System” for how to sign up to receive text alerts.

Self Service

Students can view information about their academic record and student account in the University’s student records database using the ID and password assigned to them for University network access. Among the information available to the students are semester class schedules, the University catalog, mid-term and final grades, unofficial transcripts, and charges and credits to the student’s account. Click here to access Self Service.

Student Center

Commuters and graduate students are encouraged to use the McMahan Student Center, which houses a snack bar, SUB 7 room, lounge, bookstore, Student Development office, conference room, and offices for the Student Government Association. The lower level of the center hosts Student Success, LINC volunteer services, Career Services, and Diversity Services.   Also, Information Technology is located on the lower floor of the student center.

Symphony Orchestra

Milligan students with valid ID are granted free admission to Johnson City Symphony Orchestra concerts held on the Milligan University campus.
