Nursing pass rate at 100%

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 7, 2006) — Milligan College’s graduating bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) class has again received a 100 percent first-time pass rate on their national licensure exam.

The college’s nursing classes have consistently maintained a near-100% pass-rate on the NCLEX-RN exams, earning written commendations from the Tennessee Board of Nursing (TBN). The TBN requires that 85 percent of an institution’s nursing graduates pass the examination on the first attempt.

“Not only do we prepare students to successfully pass their licensure examinations, but they enter the nursing profession fully prepared to provide quality nursing care,” said Melinda Collins, director of Milligan’s BSN program.

The 4-year BSN degree is preferred by most nursing leaders and provides the best opportunities in today’s job market, including one of the highest starting salaries in any field, explained Collins. A BSN is a requirement for many positions and is also the entry point for graduate studies, nurse practitioner, and nurse anesthetist programs.

During their coursework, Milligan’s BSN students have the opportunity to work with several major medical centers, smaller urban hospitals and clinics, community health centers, modern rural hospitals, primary care clinics, home health programs, and parish nursing programs at local churches. The college also offers LPN-RN or RN-BSN level mobility plans.

Milligan BSN graduates are currently specializing in areas such as pediatrics, labor and delivery, oncology, emergency room trauma and open heart surgery. And 100 percent of Milligan BSN graduates who have sought to advance their education have been accepted into graduate school.

Milligan’s academic dean, Dr. Mark Matson , said he is very pleased with the success of the nursing program and its contribution to the college’s mission.

“Clearly colleges that claim to prepare graduates for critical aspects of society – or as Milligan has framed its vision ‘to change lives and shape culture’ – must take seriously the health care industry,” said Matson. “Preparing servant leaders in the health care field is an essential part of Milligan’s commitment to the society that we serve.”

Milligan’s BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
