Milligan holds annual Spiritual Renewal Week

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 12, 2009) – Milligan College will hold its annual “Spiritual Renewal Week” next week, March 15-21, with special guest Ben Cachiaras, senior minister at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Md., and former minister of Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City.

The week’s theme is “Kappa Delta Pi: Fraternity…the way it should be.” Kappa Delta Pi are the first letters for the Greek words Koinonia, meaning community; Diakonia, meaning service; and Proskuneo, meaning worship.

Vespers, a student-led weekly worship service, kicks off the week on Sunday at 9 p.m. in Walker Auditorium on the lower level of Seeger Memorial Chapel. Dr. John Paul Abner, associate professor of occupational therapy and psychology, will speak on the topic of community, or Koinonia.

Monday will focus on the story, “The Feeding of the 5,000,” from the New Testament of the Bible. At 6:30 p.m. on the Mary Sword Commons, storytellers will give personal perspectives of what they experienced when Jesus performed this miracle.

Cachiaras, who is a doctoral student at Emmanuel School of Religion, will speak in convocation on Tuesday in Seeger Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. on the day’s theme of service, or Diaknoia. He will speak again on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. chapel in Seeger.

Wednesday’s events will delve deeper into the same topic, with practical applications of service as students serve each other throughout the day. A shuttle service will be available to transport students around campus, snacks will be provided outside Derthick Hall, and the Student Government Association will collect plates and trash in the cafeteria during meal times.

Another Vespers service will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Walker Auditorium, Seeger Chapel. Students will have the opportunity to donate clothes for the Institute for Servant Leadership’s clothing drive for Master Provisions. The service will contain a variety of media clips, speakers, worship, and communion.

The week will close with a retreat at the Ridgecrest Retreat Center in Black Mountain, N.C.

All of the week’s events held on the Milligan campus are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Campus Minister Nathan Flora at 423.461.8748.
