Milligan Hosts ‘See You at the Pole’ Pre-Rally Event

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (September 9, 2002) – A local pre-rally celebration for Wednesday’s national “See You at the Pole” rally will be held in Seeger Memorial Chapel on the Milligan College campus on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Youth in Ministry (YiM), a new program that helps teens determine their vocational calling in life, and Ground Zero, a regional ministry that promotes teen-to-teen student evangelism.

“It is our goal at Youth in Ministry to increase participation in the See You at the Pole rallies in the area,” says Phyllis Fox, director of Youth in Ministry. “Through this pre-celebration, we hope to create awareness and build excitement in the area youth.”

The 13th annual See You at the Pole rally will take place on Sept. 18 at 7 a.m. as part of the National Day of Student Prayer. For more than a decade, the student-led prayer rally has encouraged millions of students in every state to gather around their school flagpoles to pray for moral and spiritual awakening on their campus and around the nation.

“See You at the Pole is an annual event that helps students and adults focus on the need for prayer for their schools, teachers, fellow students, communities and country,” says Haley Wherry, director of Ground Zero ministries. “Our goal is to encourage them to meet at their flag poles on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and then to continue to pray everyday.”

Area youth and youth group sponsors are encouraged to attend the Milligan pre-rally celebration, and the event is free and open to the public. The celebration will feature praise and worship led by Ground Zero’s praise team, a drama performance and concert of prayer.

The special guest speaker for the evening will be Kenny White, former youth minister of First Christian Church in Johnson City, who now serves as senior minister at Christ’s Church at Whitewater in Fayetteville, Ga. White will speak on the topic of prayer.

“I hope that God uses me to encourage these students to participate in See You at the Pole,” says White. “This event offers youth a wonderful opportunity to pray for their schools and the people they interact with day to day, in a time when prayer is the only hope.”

Youth in Ministry (YiM) is a program that helps teens discover their vocational calling in life, considering Christian ministry in all its forms among their options. The program offers youth summits, workshops, and weeklong summer conferences that range from quick overviews to in-depth explorations for high school students to personalize a vision for their lives and see how they can make a difference in this world. The program is a partnership of Emmanuel School of Religion, a graduate seminary, and Milligan College, a Christian liberal arts college, both located near Johnson City, Tennessee. YiM funding is provided by the Lilly Endowment of Indiana. For more information, visit www.youthinministry.org or call 423.975.8021.
