New honors scholarship for seminary

John Robert Neely, Jr

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (October 30, 2017)—Milligan College is offering a new full-tuition scholarship for its Master of Divinity (M.Div.) at Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan, thanks to generous donors.

The John Robert Neely, Jr. Scholarship will benefit two newly-enrolling M.Div. students each year at the seminary, beginning in Fall 2018. This competitive scholarship will fund all tuition, required fees and provide a $1,300 annual book allowance for two top ministerial students for a period of three academic years.

The Neely Scholarship was established by his daughter, Lane Neely Pyke, and her husband, Charles, through the 3CLANE Family Foundation to honor the memory and legacy of Neely, whom the family describes as a “truly spirit-filled Christian servant-leader.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Mr. Neely’s family for their generosity, supporting Milligan’s mission to train servant leaders,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “These scholarships will allow numerous seminary students to further their studies and do God’s work. It’s because of generous donors like the Pyke family that Milligan is able to offer a high quality education at an affordable price.”

Neely studied mechanical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he played third base on the 1957 SEC Championship Team. After leaving Georgia Tech, he had a distinguished career serving the U.S. Army, Georgia Power and eventually becoming a partner with Ful-Bro Engineering, Inc., which he developed into a leading Atlanta area HVAC contractor. Neely set a strong example of Christian leadership for his family which included his wife of 57 years, Jerry Hunter Neely; son, Greg Neely; daughter, Lane Neely Pyke; and five grandsons.

Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan is a graduate seminary of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ with over 1,650 alumni serving Christ around the world.
