MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (August 29, 2017) — Prospective students interested in studying engineering can attend a free preview day for Milligan’s engineering program on Friday, Sept. 8, open to high school students and college transfers. A day for groups is slated for Friday, Oct. 20.

The events include opportunities for students to meet one-on-one with current engineering students and faculty; tour campus and the program’s new labs; eat in the cafeteria; and learn more about financial aid and scholarships.

Launched in Fall 2016, Milligan’s four-year engineering program offers mechanical and electrical engineering majors and is fully offered on the college’s main campus in Johnson City, Tennessee. It is the only such program within a two-hour radius of the Tri-Cities. In addition, many students have opportunities to complete internships and co-ops with locally-based corporations like Eastman, NN Inc., Nuclear Fuel Services Inc. (a subsidiary of BWX Technologies) and TPI Corporation.

“These Engineering Preview Days are the perfect opportunities for potential engineering majors to learn more about the program, as well as Milligan College as a whole,” said Kristin Wright, director of admissions. “Not only is our engineering program located on campus, but students have the opportunity to work hands-on with esteemed faculty who care about their individual success.”

Engineering faculty include Dr. Greg Harrell, director of Milligan’s engineering program, who serves as the lead technical advisor for the United Nations and the U.S. Department of Energy; Dr. David Hampton, professor of mechanical engineering, previously taught at West Point for over a decade; and Dr. Jeff Giesey, professor of electrical engineering, previously served as associate dean at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University and was a Fulbright Fellowship in 2001. The Milligan engineering majors have been reviewed and approved by our regional accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Milligan also will be seeking accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Accordingly, our program has been designed to meet their accreditation standards. Our engineering faculty are experienced leaders in the field and seasoned academicians who have been core faculty members in ABET-accredited programs. Local industry leaders and national corporations have endorsed the program, are offering internships and co-ops, and are eager to hire Milligan engineering graduates. More information on ABET accreditation can be found at www.abet.org.
