Milligan student photography exhibit examines Dollywood

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 14, 2016) – Milligan College senior Micah Stephens will share her photographic work on Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, featuring photographs from inside the park, including portraits of the workers and visitors.

The show, “Dollywood or Bust,” opens in the Milligan Art Gallery located in Derthick Hall on Sunday, April 17, with a reception from 2-4 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

“Part of my motivation for photographing Dollywood and the people who go there is that the theme park is a place where I grew up spending a lot of time,” said Stephens of Knoxville, Tennessee, who has been curious to learn more about Dollywood since writing a paper on it for a composition class.

“Dollywood is special to me and to the region of East Tennessee,” she said.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in fine arts and humanities this spring, Stephens is hoping to take a gap year to consider and apply to graduate programs.

The show runs until April 22. Milligan’s senior art shows are the culmination of each student’s experience as an art or photography major at the college.

Upcoming arts events in the Milligan Art Gallery include the 21st annual Milligan Juried Exhibition, which will open with a reception on Sunday, April 24, from 2-4 p.m.
