Milligan presents senior photography exhibition on travel

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 9, 2015) — Milligan College fine arts major Alayna Sutherland will present her senior photography exhibition this Sunday, April 12, with an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. in the Milligan Art Gallery, located in the lower level of Derthick Hall.

Sutherland’s exhibit, “Compass,” showcases photographs captured during her travels across the United States including photos from New York, Florida, Arizona and others.

“I believe there is an even deeper symbolism behind those spinning points of the compass,” said Sutherland, who is from Bristol, Tennessee. “My journey really is never complete. Whichever way I turn or whatever decisions I make, I continue to travel forward.”

Despite travels filled with adventure and beauty, Sutherland’s exhibit also shows her love of home.

“Home is the place where every journey I take begins and ends,” she said. “I certainly love to see the beauty of different areas in the world, but I also love to come home.”

“Compass” will remain open through the evening of Thursday, April 16.

Upcoming arts events in the Milligan Art Gallery include senior photography exhibition “At War With the Ordinary” by Will Major, April 19-24, with an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. The 20th Annual Milligan Juried Exhibition will open with a reception on Sunday, April 26, from 2-4 p.m.

These events are free and open to the public. For more information on Milligan arts events, visit www.milligan.edu/arts.
