MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 6, 2014) — Scholarship deadlines for Milligan College’s music area and honors program are drawing near in November.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Students interested in studying music can audition for scholarships up to $20,000 at Milligan on Friday, Nov. 21, from 2-6 p.m. in Seeger Chapel. The next audition is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.

These talent-based awards are based on funds available, the quality of the audition and the applicant’s potential for success as a music major. Scholarships are available for students majoring in music performance, jazz studies, music education or music business.

Music scholarships averaging $2,000 also are available to non-majors who audition to participate in an ensemble, including strings in orchestra, singers in the choirs and band instruments for jazz ensemble, as well as piano and organ.

“The music area at Milligan is a strong and energetic program that offers wonderful opportunities to music students of all interests,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of the music area.

Students must audition to be eligible for the scholarships. To learn more about Milligan’s music area and to schedule an audition for Nov. 21 or Jan. 31, contact Rita Myers, music area secretary, at 423.461.8723. If necessary, auditions can be scheduled on an individual basis or via video.

The Nov. 21 and Jan. 31 audition dates also will coincide with “Be a Buff” Day for prospective students to learn about Milligan. For more information or to register for “Be a Buff” Day, call 800.262.8337 or email the campus visit coordinator at visits@milligan.edu. For a complete schedule, visit www.milligan.edu/buffday.

HONORS SCHOLARSHIPS

The deadline for admission into the new Milligan Honors Program is Saturday, Nov. 15. Those accepted before Nov. 15 also may be invited to interview for one of the Jeanes Honors Scholarships.

The Milligan Honors Program will begin in fall 2015 and accept 10 to 15 scholars per year. The program will provide an advanced opportunity for high-achieving students from all major fields to deepen their intellectual scholarship, leadership and service. It is designed to build a foundation for personal and professional growth and also is excellent preparation to gain entrance into the nation’s top graduate programs.

The Jeanes Scholarships will provide two full-tuition academic scholarships to the most promising freshman candidates each year to participate in the program. Other program participants are eligible for academic merit scholarships, ranging from $10,000 to $15,000. Milligan also provides need-based aid and accepts all state and federal aid, including the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship.

Admission to the Milligan Honors Program is selective and requires a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and at least a 29 on the ACT or 1300 on the re-centered SAT.
