It’s Wonderful Wednesday at Milligan

Wonderful WednesdayMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 2, 2014) — It is “Wonderful Wednesday” at Milligan College. Classes for traditional undergraduates have been canceled today, April 2, and a variety of social activities culminating with a professionally produced fireworks display have been planned for the college’s annual surprise holiday.

This spring holiday for the Milligan community is a college tradition dating back to 1969. Known as “Wonderful Wednesday,” the holiday does not always fall on a Wednesday. A veil of secrecy surrounds the exact date and theme of the surprise holiday each year. Activities are planned by Milligan’s Campus Activities Board.

Inspired by holidays, this year’s theme is titled “It’s the Most Wonderful Day of the Year ― A Holiday Extravaganza.”

“Going back decades, this spring holiday has been the most wonderful and most anticipated day of the spring semester at Milligan,” said Kristal Dove, director of campus activities. “Our theme this year allowed us to be extremely creative and incorporate the traditions and decorations of many holiday celebrations into one day of non-stop fun.”

Each activity throughout the day corresponds with a different holiday, beginning with a Christmas Brunch at 10:30 a.m. in McCormick Dining Center. Brunch is followed by an Easter egg hunt at noon.

Throughout the afternoon, students may participate in Memorial Day Intramurals and the Arbor Day Tree Climb. They can relax in the Labor Day Lounge and grab a Hershey’s Kiss candy at the Valentine Kissing Booth.

Other highlights of the day will be the St. Patrick’s Day Waterslide, complete with a touch of green water for the occasion, and the Presidents Day Dunking Booth, featuring Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer.

There will be a New Year’s Eve Party at 4:30 p.m., followed by a traditional Thanksgiving dinner served at 5 p.m. in the McCormick Dining Center.

“One of the students’ favorite meals served on campus is the Thanksgiving dinner prepared each November by our wonderful cafeteria staff,” Dove said. “Since our theme is centered on the holidays this year, we thought it would be a big hit with students if we replicate that meal and allow them to enjoy it again.”

Following dinner, students may participate in a Mardi Gras King Cake Contest. The fun continues into the dark with the highlight of the holiday festivities, an on-campus fireworks display, at 8:30 p.m. Finally, the festivities wind down with an on-campus movie on the green at 9:15 p.m.
