Milligan orchestra to participate in worship at Grandview Christian Church


Milligan College OrchestraMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 24, 2014) — The Milligan College Orchestra will participate in the morning worship services at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City, Tenn., on Sunday, March 2.

The orchestra will play during Grandview’s 9:30 a.m. service and then will split their time during the church’s two 11 a.m. services. They will perform orchestra specials and accompany the worship team and congregational singing.

The Milligan College Orchestra performs throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and collaborates frequently with professional ensembles and arts organizations, including The Civic Chorale, the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, the East Tennessee Regional Symphony, Mountain Empire Children’s Choir Academy and the City Youth Ballet.

In addition, it is the pit orchestra for various opera and musical productions at Milligan and serves local churches in ministry. The orchestra also champions new works and has performed the world premieres of numerous pieces including “Three Genres” by John Grubb and “Genesis” by internationally renowned composer Kenton Coe.

The orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Kellie Brown, associate professor of music. Brown has been a member of the Milligan music faculty since 1998 and serves as chair of the music department, director of the strings program and conductor of Milligan’s orchestra. She is a frequent clinician and performer throughout the country and serves as the assistant conductor of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra.
