Milligan to host information sessions in Kingsport

infosession-KCHEMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Aug. 1, 2013) — Milligan College will host two information sessions on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE).

These sessions will spotlight Milligan’s five graduate and professional studies programs offered at KCHE, located at 300 West Market Street in Kingsport.

The 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. lunch session and the 4:30-6:30 p.m. dinner session are free and open to the public. Registration is not required, but is requested at www.milligan.edu/kingsport.

KCHE is a $12 million, 54,000-square-foot facility that combines the resources of several regional colleges and universities under one roof.

In May, Milligan announced that it will partner with KCHE to offer five programs at their facility. These programs include undergraduate, graduate and executive certificate programs in business administration/operations management; an RN to BSN (nursing program); and an undergraduate degree program in early childhood education.

At the information sessions, prospective students will have an opportunity to talk directly to faculty and staff about the programs. They will receive information about financial aid, academic coursework and everything necessary to help make the decision to return to college even easier.

The Milligan programs offered at KCHE include:

The adult degree completion program (ADCP) in business administration with an emphasis in operations management—Exceptionally suited for the industrial and business climate of Kingsport and the surrounding area, this 16-month degree completion program is designed for adults who have completed about two years of college and have at least two years of full-time work experience. The 44 semester hours of credit will be delivered in a face-to-face format in accelerated evening classes that meet one night per week for five weeks beginning in February 2014.

The ADCP in child and youth development (early childhood education)—In 18-23 months students can complete the child and youth development major, and even opt to certify to teach PreK-3 with an additional semester of full-time student teaching. The didactic coursework for the degree consists of face-to-face classes with some being broadcast from the Milligan campus to KCHE via ITV. These accelerated evening classes will meet one night per week for four to six weeks beginning in January 2014.

ADCP in RN to BSN (nursing)—This adult degree completion program will begin in January 2014 and is designed for the practicing RN who desires to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The program requires students to be in class on the KCHE campus only one day per week and will provide students with individual advising sessions to guide them through the curriculum. Classes will be a combination of online, face to face and hybrid (a mix of online and face to face). Completing the major takes approximately 19 months.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)—This 14-month graduate degree program consists of 32 semester hours of credit. It will be delivered in a hybrid format in accelerated classes that last from five to eight weeks. Classes meet on Saturdays once a month, complemented by several weeks of on-going discussion, class participation and other assignments, all facilitated by faculty using Internet-based resources. Milligan’s MBA offers tracks in leadership, healthcare management and operations management. The operations management track will begin at KCHE in March 2014.

MBA executive certificate—The executive certificate in operations management consists of nine semester hours of credit. Like other MBA courses, this certificate track will be delivered in a hybrid format in accelerated classes that last five weeks. Each class will include an eight-hour, face-to-face meeting on a Saturday, and the remainder of the coursework will be completed online. The executive certificate in operations management will be offered at KCHE beginning in fall 2014.

Milton Carter, a Kingsport native who has served in Milligan’s office of graduate and professional studies since 2002, will serve as the on-site coordinator for KCHE.
