MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 26, 2013) — Milligan College senior Gretchen Allie was recognized earlier this month for her video work and service to the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of Greater Johnson City, Tenn.

IHN provides an opportunity for homeless families to remain together as a family while addressing the challenges that confront them in obtaining housing. These families receive counseling, services and opportunities on issues related to each family’s specific needs. An organized coalition of community churches provides temporary food and shelter for families involved in IHN.

Allie, a communications major with emphases in digital media and public relations, was approached with the opportunity to create a set of 10 training videos for the volunteers at IHN.

Becky Allsop, coordinator of IHN at Grandview Christian Church and chairwoman of the congregational committee, had the idea to create the training videos so that volunteers could understand what their responsibilities were during their service.

“Gretchen did a wonderful job,” Allsop said. “She was very patient during the process and very professional.”

On March 19, IHN unveiled the 10 new training videos to the IHN’s church coordinators. During that meeting, IHN also recognized Allie for her service.

“There is a huge need for experience in digital media on the mission field and in ministry,” said Allie, a native of Charlotte, N.C. “Through video, photography and design, we can tell the stories of what God has done and is doing all around the world. I want to use my degree to help ministries tell their stories of how God is using their ministry to change the world.”

Allie hopes to work for a non-profit organization after she graduates.

“Creating these videos gave me experience in working with a non-profit organization,” she said. “The process helped me to know that I can use things like video to do ministry.”
