Milligan to offer MBA executive certificates

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 29, 2013) — Milligan College is now offering an opportunity for individuals who already possess a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent degree to earn an executive certificate in one of three specialized tracks—leadership, healthcare management or operations management.

Executive certificate courses in the specialized tracks are set to begin in September 2013.

“Last fall, Milligan introduced three specialized tracks within our MBA program,” said Courtney Kieslich, director of graduate and professional studies at Milligan. “These tracks have been very popular among our prospective MBA students. But we have discovered that many business professionals who already have an MBA want the specialization these tracks offer, as well. So we developed the executive certificate program to meet that demand from MBA alumni.”

Individuals possessing an MBA or equivalent degree who meet the MBA admission criteria are eligible to apply for the executive certificates. Students seeking the executive certificate will take three courses specific to their chosen track. Each course is three credit hours.

Students can choose to earn an executive certificate in one of the following tracks:

  • The leadership track explores best practices in understanding and maximizing human interaction in global and diverse contexts. The track also examines current issues in leadership and appropriate strategies for implementing change.
  • The healthcare management track examines the United States healthcare system, including staff management, government interventions and comparisons with other healthcare delivery systems in developed countries. The track also examines the administration of healthcare finance and the management of regulatory compliance within healthcare organizations.
  • The operations management track is designed to further provide students with a broad conceptual framework for the management of operations in today’s competitive, global environment. The track will demonstrate how organizations compete on the elements of quality, cost, time, innovation and flexibility using human, material and informational resources.

“Historically, many of our MBA students have worked in industrial, healthcare and various other leadership sectors, so these tracks—now offered within Milligan’s MBA program and the new MBA executive certificate—provide additional ways to hone in on their area of expertise,” said Dr. David Campbell, director of the MBA program.

Milligan’s MBA is a 14-month program that meets in the classroom one Saturday per month, complemented by ongoing Internet-based instruction. This format is designed to accommodate professionals working at every level of management and focuses on business leadership from a Christian perspective.

Milligan College will host an information open house for its graduate and professional studies (GPS) programs, including the MBA, on Monday, April 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Milligan’s Derthick Hall.
