MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 28, 2012)—Two Milligan College music professors were invited to perform in the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
Dr. Kellie Brown and Cheryl Fitzgerald will perform as string players at Mannheim Steamroller’s Johnson City engagement. Now in its 27th year for the Christmas tour, Mannheim Steamroller is met throughout the country by sold-out audiences and was among the top 20 concert tours in the nation last year.
“During any given Christmas season, I get contracted for a lot of gigs in various venues, but being asked to play with such a special group as Mannheim Steamroller is a real treat,” Brown said.
Brown, associate professor of music at Milligan, has been a member of the music faculty since 1998 and serves as chair of the music department, director of the strings program and conductor of the Milligan College Orchestra. She is a frequent clinician and performer throughout the country and serves as the assistant conductor of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and assistant concertmaster for the Symphony of the Mountains.
Fitzgerald, adjunct instructor of music, has taught cello, bass and chamber music at Milligan since 2005. She is principal cellist of the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Asheville Symphony and the Kingsport Symphony of the Mountains. As a chamber musician, Fitzgerald performs with The Paramount Chamber Players, the Shelbridge Chamber Players and Signature Strings. In addition to teaching at Milligan, she is an adjunct instructor at East Tennessee State University, maintains a private cello studio and is director of the East Tennessee Cello Choir.
