Aubrey to perform at Milligan

Alumna signs publishing deal for ‘Alone on Christmas’

Erin AubreyMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 30, 2012) — Recording artist and Milligan College alumna Erin Aubrey will perform with her band in Milligan’s McMahan Student Center on Friday, Nov. 2, at 9 p.m. The doors open at 8 p.m., and the concert is free and open to the public.

Aubrey, an Elizabethton, Tenn., native, recently signed her first international publishing deal. High Note International Multi-Media Corporation, a licensing company and prominent record label in China, approached Aubrey in July 2012 and offered to buy her song, “Alone on Christmas,” for its 2012 Christmas compilation album, “Merry Christmas in Jazz,” to be sold nationwide. The contract gives the company licensing rights to the song for five years in the territories of China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. Aubrey will receive royalties from each disc sold. The deal was made final a few weeks ago.

“It is every songwriter’s dream to have someone offer to buy one of your songs,” Aubrey said. “I feel very excited and blessed.”

She released the single “Alone on Christmas” in November 2011 after her producer, Ronnie Brookshire, a Grammy award-winning Elizabethton native, advised her to write a Christmas song.

Aubrey released her first album, “All These Ours,” in fall 2010 while attending Milligan during her senior year. After graduation, she moved to Nashville and has been performing with her band there in well-known venues such as The Bluebird Café and Hard Rock Cafe. She also won third place in the International Songwriting Competition shortly after finishing her time at Milligan.

Aubrey credits her jazzy songwriting to her Milligan classes led by Rick Simerly, associate professor of music.

“Mr. Simerly sparked my interest in jazz, and the knowledge I gained from him will always pour into my music,” Aubrey said.
