Milligan president announces changes to MBA program

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 25, 2012) — Milligan College President Dr. Bill Greer announced that the college will enhance its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program by adding three specialized tracks in leadership, healthcare management and operations management.

Greer announced the changes on Thursday at the general session of Milligan’s annual fall board meeting. The new tracks will begin in March 2013.

Before he became president in 2011, Greer served on Milligan’s administration and faculty. As a faculty member, he led the effort to develop and establish the MBA, and also served as the founding director of the program.

“When we created the MBA program eight years ago, it was designed with a leading-edge curriculum that is relevant and useful for business professionals,” Greer said. “The addition of specialized tracks is a natural next step for us as we grow and adapt the program to meet the needs of our students.”

The MBA will remain a 14-month program that meets in the classroom one Saturday per month, complemented by ongoing Internet-based instruction. This format is designed to accommodate professionals working at every level of management and focuses on business leadership from a Christian perspective.

“Students like the format of our program, which includes face-to-face interaction with faculty, as well as convenient online learning to allow them to juggle a job and their graduate studies,” said Dr. David Campbell, director of the MBA program. “The change we are making will enhance our program by creating a new opportunity for students to hone in on their area of expertise. We’ve created three tracks that will meet a significant demand and interest among business professionals.”

On their application, prospective students will choose one of the following tracks:

  • The leadership track explores best practices in understanding and maximizing human interaction in global and diverse contexts.  The track also examines current issues in leadership and appropriate strategies for implementing change.
  • The healthcare management track examines the United States healthcare system, including staff management, government interventions and comparisons with other healthcare delivery systems in developed countries. The track also examines the administration of healthcare finance and the management of regulatory compliance within healthcare organizations.
  • The operations management track is designed to further provide students with a broad conceptual framework for the management of operations in today’s competitive, global environment. The track will demonstrate how organizations compete on the elements of quality, cost, time, innovation, and flexibility using human, material and informational resources.

The Admissions Office at Milligan College will host an information open house for its graduate and professional studies (GPS) programs, including the MBA, on Monday, Nov. 5, from 6-7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Milligan’s Derthick Hall.
