Spoken-word artist to perform at Milligan

David BowdenMILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 23, 2012) — Spoken-word artist and poet David Bowden will speak at Milligan College on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Bowden follows the tradition of the beat poets of the 1950s and slam poets of the 1980s. He uses poetry to challenge and inspire individuals and groups to give a voice to the voiceless, promote social justice and care for the needy throughout the world.

Some of his more well-known pieces include, “Death in His Sting,” “Start Something that Matters” and “Diversity’s Symphony.”

In addition, Bowden is the vice president of Give a Goat, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for families to end the cycle of poverty through sustainable agriculture. Through the goat program, an impoverished person can go from barely surviving day-to-day to having the resources to consistently provide for their families in a sustainable manner.
