Milligan presents Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 8, 2012) — Milligan College will present Agatha Christie’s murder mystery, “And Then There Were None,” Oct. 25-28 in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25-27. A matinee performance will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. All seats are $5. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 12, in the Milligan Bookstore.

The production is one of several special events to be held on campus during Milligan’s annual Homecoming festivities.

Based on a novel by Christie, “And Then There Were None” transports audiences to an island off the coast of Devon, England, where 10 strangers are summoned together. The only commonality among the strangers is a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal. After a mysterious voice accuses each person of getting away with murder, each individual in the group is murdered one by one.

“The excitement never lets up, and audience members will be trying to figure out who the murderer is right up to the end of the play,” said Richard Major, professor of theater at Milligan.

The play is directed by Major, with scenic and lighting design by Pamela Adolphi.

“Pamela has created a set that perfectly complements the action of a play filled with mystery,” Major said. “Her lighting design equally helps to build the suspense as the play unfolds.”

Natasha Carpenter, a senior from Mexico City, Mexico, and Kate Handzlik, a junior from Chalfont, Pa., are the stage managers. Students from Adolphi’s “Stage Makeup” class will design the makeup and hairstyles for the production.

The cast features Colin Blowers, a senior from Elizabethton, Tenn., as Philip Lombard; Darcie DeLong, a sophomore from Indianapolis, Ind., as Vera Claythorne; Adam Derrick, a sophomore from Boone, N.C., as William Blore; Jonathan Herd, a senior from Columbia, Mo., as Sir Lawrence Wargrave; and Taylor Ross, a senior from Fallston, Md., as Dr. Armstrong.

Other cast members include Benjamin Carpenter of Johnson City, Tenn.; Andrew Higgins of Owosso, Mich.; Danielle Moore of Unicoi, Tenn.; Tyler Brackins of Unicoi; Rebecca “Tess” Evans of Roanoke, Va.; and Ian Burt of Madison, Va.

“Once again we have assembled a stellar cast of young actors who do a superb job of making this classic mystery come to life,” Major said. “As rehearsals have progressed, I’ve been delighted with how the actors have made this story their own and have invested themselves 100 percent into the development of their characters. I’m confident this is going to be a bona fide hit with our audiences.”

To purchase tickets, visit the Milligan College Bookstore, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or call 423.461.8733.

After the Oct. 26 and 27 performances, the Associated Ladies for Milligan (ALM) will host a cake and coffee reception in Milligan’s Taylor/Phillips House. The reception begins at 9 p.m. Tickets for this event are $15, and advanced reservations are required by calling 423.461.8710. Proceeds from the reception will benefit the ALM Endowment, which permanently provides student scholarships at Milligan.
