Milligan mourns death of professor Isaac Nidiffer

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Aug. 9, 2012) — Milligan College mourns the death of Isaac Nidiffer, assistant professor of the practice of mathematics. Nidiffer passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 7, after a period of declining health.

“The Milligan community has suffered a great loss,” said Milligan President Bill Greer. “I deeply appreciated my colleague’s kind and gentle manner, and he will be missed by all of us and by the thousands of students whose lives he has touched throughout his career.”

Nidiffer began teaching math at Milligan in 1995, but his impact reached far beyond his years at the college. A graduate of Unaka High School, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, Tenn.).

He taught at Ross N. Robinson Junior High School (Kingsport, Tenn.) from 1962-76. In 1976, he began teaching at Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport, where he served for 21 years. He also was an adjunct instructor at ETSU and Northeast State University (Blountville, Tenn.).

The Celebration of Life service for Mr.  Nidiffer will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, in Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton.
