Milligan to hold Morristown information session for graduate and adult programs

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (June 7, 2012) — The Admissions Office at Milligan College will host an information open house for its graduate and adult programs on Tuesday, June 19, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Morristown Chamber of Commerce, located at 825 W. First North Street in downtown Morristown.

Visitors will learn more about Milligan’s graduate program in business administration (MBA), which is offered in Morristown on the campus of Walters State Community College, as well as graduate degree programs in education (M.Ed.),occupational therapy (MSOT) and counseling (MSC). The open house also will include information about Milligan’s degree completion programs for adults in business administration and early childhood education (BS), and its online major incomputer information systems.

The general information session will allow visitors to speak with Milligan faculty and staff and receive information on a variety of topics, such as academic coursework and financial aid.

One of the most popular programs for prospective students in the Morristown area is Milligan’s MBA program. New MBA cohorts will begin on Milligan’s campus and the Walters State campus this fall. The MBA is a 14-month program that meets one Saturday per month, complemented by ongoing Internet-based instruction. The program is designed to accommodate professionals working at every level of management and focuses on business leadership from a Christian perspective.

The MSC is Milligan’s newest graduate program and is set to begin this fall. The two-year, 60-credit-hour program will prepare graduates to pursue licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). The counseling program consists of six full semesters, including two summer sessions. Classes are available in late afternoons and evenings.

The M.Ed. program includes both initial licensure and advanced degree options. The initial licensure degree is typically a 15-month professional educational program that allows students to earn their teaching certificate or license and their degree. The advanced program is for current teachers seeking professional development and their master’s degree. Advanced M.Ed. students have the option of completing their coursework completely online or in a traditional classroom setting.

The MSOT program is the only master’s level occupational therapy program in northeast Tennessee. It prepares therapists to help people with injuries or illnesses to relearn basic living skills. The program is designed for people with undergraduate degrees in a variety of academic fields.

The BS in business administration is a degree completion program that enables working adults to complete a business administration major in 16 months by attending class one night a week.

The BS in early childhood education allows adults who have completed about two years of college to complete the child and youth development major in about 18 months at either Milligan or at its off-campus site in Mountain City, Tenn. Teaching licensure in early childhood education (PreK-3) may be obtained by completing additional coursework and a 15-week supervised teaching experience in a public school setting.

The computer information systems-mobile major is designed for students who are unable to complete their degree or add a second major in a traditional college setting. Courses in this major are delivered to the student via Milligan’s Internet course management system and can be easily accessed from anywhere. Students can take just one course at a time or complete the major in as few as four semesters.
