Milligan sophomore receives regional broadcast scholarship

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 3, 2012) — Milligan College sophomore Lindsey Campbell of Mountain City, Tenn., is the recipient of the W.L. Nininger Broadcast Scholarship Award for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The W.L. Nininger Broadcast Scholarship, given by the Bristol Broadcasting Company, was created by Lisa Hale Nininger in honor of her father W.L. “Pete” Nininger. Her father was the manager of Bristol Broadcasting Company for more than 50 years and had a passion for helping young people as they developed their broadcasting skills. This is the second year the scholarship has been awarded.

“Lindsey is a hardworking student and always puts forth 110 percent,” said Dr. Carrie Swanay, professor of communications at Milligan. “It is clear to see that she has a passion for the field of broadcasting and that is certainly what it takes to succeed in this area.”

Swanay, who is area chair of Milligan’s performing, visual, and communicative arts area, recommended Campbell for the scholarship. Campbell is majoring in communications with a double emphasis in digital media and multimedia journalism.

Criteria for the scholarship include being a local student interested in a broadcast career; having potential, academic achievement and experience in the field; and being energetic and enthusiastic.

“I am thankful that Dr. Swanay and Bristol Broadcasting think I have the potential for a career in broadcasting,” Campbell said. “It is a good feeling to know that my desire to work in broadcasting or production can become a reality. I feel like this area of study is definitely where I belong.”
