Milligan to host M.Ed. information session at Walters State

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 2, 2012) — The Admissions Office at Milligan College will host an information open house for the advanced track of the Master of Education degree program on Thursday, March 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn.

The information session will be held in the Foundations Room, located in the Dr. Jack E. Campbell College Center Building at Walters State. No pre-registration is required to attend.

Milligan’s advanced M.Ed. program is for already-licensed teachers who may also add an endorsement or simply take courses for professional development through the program. The advanced program is offered fully online or in a traditional face-to-face classroom setting.

At the information session, visitors will receive information on a variety of topics such as academic coursework, scheduling and financial aid.

“The information session is an opportunity for teachers who are looking for career enrichment to learn how they can conveniently and realistically complete their M.Ed., or just take a course to get fresh ideas through Milligan,” said Jan E. Loveday, director of admissions for the M.Ed. program. “We understand the professional obligations and demands on teachers, so we offer a program that works with their schedule and helps them meet their goals.”

The 36-hour degree program consists of a 24-credit hour core and 12 elective credits. The 12 elective hours can be used to tailor the program to students’ interests by choosing courses that appeal to them or to add-on another endorsement. Milligan offers endorsements in PreK-3; PreK-3 Special Education; K-6; 4-8 Middle Grades; 7-12 Secondary; and K-12 art, music, theatre, French, Spanish and physical education. Some add-ons may require more than 12 elective credits.

Course offerings are scheduled in a summer, fall, spring, summer sequence. However, students may begin at any time and pursue the program completion at a less ambitious pace to meet their scheduling needs. Individual courses available for professional development are offered each semester.
