MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 20, 2012) — The third annual Milligan College Fine Arts Summer Academy for high school students will be held June 17-22. Options are available in music, theater and digital media (photography, videography and graphic design).
Taught by Milligan faculty, the programs include hands-on workshops and lessons, evening activities, morning devotions and fun outings to local destinations. Participants may also choose to earn dual enrollment credit at no additional cost.
“The academy is a time of self-discovery and creativity,” said Dr. Carrie Swanay, chair of the Area of Performing, Visual, and Communicative Arts. “The students always learn a lot and have fun at the same time.”
The week culminates in a talent showcase on Friday, June 22, at 6 p.m. The performance is free and open to family and friends.
Students have the option of staying on campus in a residence hall or commuting as a day student. The residential students have fun evening activities and get to experience a taste of college life and interaction with Milligan students, who serve as counselors and staff.
The cost is $500 for residential students or $400 for day students. Students who register by April 15 will receive a $25 discount. Tennessee residents may qualify for a grant through the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program to help offset the cost of the arts academy. The grant application deadline is May 1.
