Jonesborough student receives Milligan’s top academic scholarship


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Sept. 5, 2011) – Lindsey Kyker of Jonesborough, Tenn., is attending Milligan College as the 2011 recipient of the college’s Oosting Scholarship, a merit-based academic scholarship.

As an Oosting scholar, Lindsey is recognized for outstanding academic ability, a demonstration of commitment to scholarly pursuits, a sincere Christian faith and service to others.

“I’ve found that self-determination can really affect how you accomplish tasks,” said Kyker, a freshman mathematics major at Milligan. “For me, high school was always my preparation for college, as college will be for my career. I am grateful for good teachers who prepared me for this experience.”

Kyker was the 2011 Salutatorian at David Crockett High School, where she was a member or officer of several clubs including the environmental club, the Civinette Group, the Spanish club, the hiking club, BETA club and Crockett Congregation. She was also a member of the All-East and All-State Tennessee Honors Choirs. In addition, she received her high school’s Advanced Placement (AP) English and math awards.

Kyker plans to obtain licensure in middle school education and teach mathematics. She is the daughter of Jim and Kim Kyker.
