Milligan announces auditions for ‘The Secret Garden’

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Aug. 19, 2011) — The Milligan College Theatre Department announces auditions for its fall production of “The Secret Garden,” a musical by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon. The musical is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Auditions will be held Aug. 29 and 30, at 7 p.m., in Milligan’s Gregory Center for the Liberal Arts. All of the roles are open, and the community is welcome to audition for any of the parts, varying in age from 10 and older.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a prepared, memorized piece of music no longer than 16 bars or one verse. An accompanist will be provided. No sign-ups are required to audition.

Performances will be Oct. 28 and 29, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2:30 p.m.

Dennis Elkins will direct, along with Charlotte Anderson (music), Kellie Brown (orchestra) and Pamela Adolphi (designer).

“The Secret Garden” is the story of a young, orphaned girl, Mary Lennox, who is left in the care of her reclusive uncle and his household staff. They hold on to the secrets and memories of the past in a rambling mansion on the desolate heaths of Yorkshire, England.  Mary’s strong-willed desire to transform a locked and forgotten garden into an oasis of purpose and beauty comes into direct conflict with her uncle’s self-imposed walls of harsh seclusion.
