Bryant wins Milligan book sale art contest

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2010) — The library staff at Milligan College recently announced that senior Jessi Bryant, of Elizabethton, Tenn., is the winner of the 2nd Annual Library Homecoming Book Sale Art Contest.

Her work will be used to promote the book sale, which is set for Oct. 22-23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the lawn of the P. H. Welshimer Library on Milligan’s campus. The book sale features books and electronic media on sale for less than $2.

Bryant’s winning photo, titled “Good Evening,” captures a wooden chair surrounded by a dark, textured landscape.

“I’ve always enjoyed photography and the contest provided me the opportunity to share my interest and work with others,” said Bryant, a psychology major.

Her photo beat out 19 other pieces of art that included photography, drawings and graphic design.

The 2010 Homecoming Book Sale information was added to Bryant’s photo and displayed all around the Milligan campus and surrounding community. An estimated 250 posters and 250 postcards featuring her photo were printed. Her work is also featured on the library’s Facebook, Twitter and blog pages.

“In addition to the free display of her art and a great entry on her résumé, Jessi will receive 2.5 percent of the total book sale proceeds,” said Jeff Harbin, user services librarian. “We’ll be donating the rest of this year’s proceeds to Milligan’s Forward Ever campaign, so every dollar received helps the college reach its campaign goals.”
