Milligan ranks among Top 10, Best Buy in South

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 17, 2010) — U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” ranks Milligan College among the top 10 Best Regional Colleges in the South.

Milligan, which ranked #10, was also recognized in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” subcategory, where the college held its rank from last year as #4 among regional colleges in the south.

Over the past 27 years, the U.S. News college rankings has grown to be one of the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.

Milligan President Don Jeanes is pleased with Milligan’s rankings, which reflect the college’s commitment to academic excellence and affordability.

“Milligan offers an excellent education at a great value to our students,” said Jeanes. “We are honored to once again be recognized for these efforts by U.S. News & World Report.”

The criteria used to determine the U.S. News rankings include peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

To determine Milligan’s placement as one of the best buys among regional colleges in the south, U.S. News considers the college’s academic quality and the cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid.

This year U.S. News changed Milligan’s category title from Baccalaureate Colleges to Regional Colleges to follow the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Schools in the regional category focus almost entirely on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and in fields such a business, nursing and education.

The rankings will be published in the magazine’s September issue, on newsstands next Tuesday, Aug. 31, and are available online at www.usnews.com/colleges beginning today, Aug. 17. The 2011 Best Colleges guidebook will be on newsstands Aug. 24.
