Milligan jazz concert to feature guest musician Todd Wright

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 24, 2010) – The Milligan College Jazz Ensemble will present a spring concert on Monday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel. The concert will feature guest alto saxophonist, Todd Wright.

The 22-piece ensemble is under the direction of Rick Simerly, associate professor of music at Milligan.

“This ensemble has prepared some fine selections for our spring concert,” Simerly said. “Add to that the alto saxophone virtuosity of Todd Wright, and you have a great concert.”

Wright is director of jazz studies at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. He is an active professional musician and jazz clinician, who has performed with jazz greats Benny Golson, Clark Terry, Eddie Daniels, Dr. Billy Taylor, Jon Faddis, Jason Marsalis, Louis Bellson and numerous others.

He has performed internationally in the Caribbean, Mexico, Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland. Wright performs regularly with his jazz quartet and has taught jazz clinics in Freiburg and Alpirsbach, Germany.

The Milligan Jazz Ensemble consists of Milligan students as well as students and adults from throughout the region. They will be performing a variety of songs from the libraries of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Wayne Shorter, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones and others.
