Milligan music faculty to present joint recital

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 16, 2010) – The Milligan College music faculty will present a collaborative recital on Friday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel.

“This is the first such recital at Milligan in many years and it has created much excitement among the faculty and students,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, associate professor of music at Milligan. “The whole concept of collaboration within the music department and with other departments on campus, such as theater, is one of the many strengths of the liberal arts structure of Milligan.”

The recital will feature 10 performers from the music faculty, including Rick Simerly, Dr. Charlotte Anderson, Anne Elliott, Tom Crawford and Brown. It will also highlight a wide range of chamber ensembles and repertoire, including John Williams’ “Air and Simple Gifts” for clarinet, violin, cello and piano. This piece was originally performed at the 2009 presidential inauguration.

Also featured will be works for organ, voice, violin and viola, including “Chariot’s Comin’!(Swing Low, Sweet Chariot)” arranged by Don Besig, songs from “Siete Canciones Populares Españolas” by Manuel de Falla, “Benedictus” for organ by Max Reger and Bach’s famous “Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C Major, BWV 564.”

The recital is free and open to the public. For more information on Milligan events visitwww.milligan.edu/arts or contact 423.461.8723.
