Milligan donates proceeds of concert to Second Harvest Food Bank

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 19, 2010) – The annual Milligan College Community Christmas concert raised $2331.72 forSecond Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee. Dr. Kellie Brown, associate professor of music at Milligan, presented the check to Rhonda Chafin, executive director of Second Harvest, on Monday, Jan. 11

“Every year, we collect donations at the concert and select an organization to receive the proceeds,” Brown said. “This year, we are pleased to help Second Harvest because they do such important work feeding the hungry in our community.”

Second Harvest is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network. Its mission is to secure and distribute surplus food and grocery products to non-profit charities that feed the hungry in eight counties in Northeast Tennessee.

“It is so important for us to have community support, like the support Milligan has given us,” Chafin said. “We are a community agency that needs support year round.”
