Mahan’s “A New Perspective” exhibit opens Sunday

Milligan College, TN (April 16, 2009) — The artistic works of Milligan College senior Rachel Mahan will be on display April 19-24 in the Milligan College Art Gallery located in the lower level of Derthick Hall. An opening reception for the show, entitled “A New Perspective,” will be held Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.

“‘A New Perspective’ embodies my transformation as a student, especially in the arts, and gives testament to the fact I am even having a show, considering I was a business major for my first two years at school,” Mahan said. “I never knew I had any artistic capabilities until I took my first art course during my sophomore year.”

The show will display 30 photos with a broad range of subjects from a color series of still-lifes to photographs taken in Europe and New York City. Mahan, an art major and business minor from Johnson City, said she does not have one specific subject she enjoys photographing but will stop to photograph a subject that catches her eye, although at times she is more intentional about the process, setting up her camera with specific placement.

“Photography is often an evolving process for me, as I come to learn and understand more about the process,” Mahan said.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Alice Anthony, associate professor of art at Milligan College, at 423.461.8970.
