Youth ministry appreciation event at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE (March 1, 2007) — Area youth ministers and leaders will have an opportunity to learn more about equipping and empowering students to be future leaders during a free training event on Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. on the campus of Milligan College. Dr. Tim Elmore, founder and president of Growing Leaders, Inc., will serve as keynote speaker for the event.

Elmore has taught leadership in churches, colleges and corporations throughout the world and has authored 21 books on equipping emerging leaders within the next generation. He previously worked with Dr. John C. Maxwell at EQUIP, a non-profit organization training leaders at faith-based organizations around the globe.

The event is sponsored by Youth in Ministry (YiM), a partnership of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion, which helps teens in the Tri-Cities region and throughout the United States determine their vocational calling in life and decide how they can best minister as a Christian in their careers.

“This event is in appreciation for the service and leadership of youth ministry teams throughout the region,” said Phyllis Fox, director of YiM.  “Tim’s presentation is relevant and timely for youth leaders wrestling with the challenge of preparing teens to lead their generation.”

As a special bonus, all participants will receive a complimentary book from Elmore’s “Habitudes” series, which provides a breakthrough way to teach leadership principles to a post-modern student.

Curtis Booher, assistant professor of Christian ministries and Bible at Milligan, will emcee the evening. The Milligan jazz ensemble, under the direction of associate professor of music Rick Simerly, will provide musical entertainment.

The event will be held in the McCormick Dining Room in Sutton Hall. Admission is free but participants are encouraged to register for the event in advance to reserve their copy of “Habitudes.” To register, call 423.975.8021, or email pfox@milligan.edu .
