Milligan campus to spend day in service honoring MLK Jr.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 12, 2007) — Milligan College will honor and remember the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. as the “Picture of a Servant Leader” through a series of events next week, culminating in the fourth annual Day of Service on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

In lieu of classes on Tuesday, the campus will attend a 9:30 a.m. convocation and reflection service in Seeger Chapel lead by Rev. Danny Johnson of Thankful Baptist Church, share in a campus brunch in the McCormick Dining Hall, reflect at various memorial locations set up throughout the campus, and then spend the afternoon in service to the local community.

“This day of service is part of Milligan’s ongoing dedication to serving others. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and dreams reflect Milligan’s mission of servant leadership and it is appropriate for us to dedicate ourselves to serving those around us,” said Beth Anderson, director of Milligan College’s Institute for Servant Leadership.

“Last year 375 staff, faculty and students contributed 1500 community service hours in just one day, and they continue their commitment to serving others in various capacities throughout the year,” said Anderson.
