Summer Arts Camp features local educators

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 22, 2006) —Local children interested in the arts are invited to the annual Summer Arts Camp held June 5-9, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Milligan College.

The theme for this year’s camp is “Arts Smarts.” Children ages 7 to 13 will experience drama, music, art, creative movement and creative writing, all taught by local teachers. The children will also have time to swim in Milligan’s indoor pool each afternoon. Small group instruction at the camp is child-centered and focused on the appropriate developmental level of the children.

”Summer Arts Camp encourages each child to explore his/her unique gifts and ideas in a Christian environment of community and acceptance,” said Carlene B. Eastridge, coordinator of the camp and director of Eastridge Academy of Music. “We have many students return year after year, which speaks well of our commitment to each child and the fun and rewarding experience Summer Arts provides.”

Woodland Elementary School teacher Keith Hertzog serves as director of the camp. Tracy Hoilman, Tennessee Teacher of the Year, will teach drama. Charles Harrison, teacher at Indian Trail Middle School, and Kingsport artist, Russell Bennett, will teach art. Mary Anne Sowers, teacher at Mountain View Elementary, will teach creative movement. Janet Hertzog, also from Mountain View, will teach creative writing. Laura Evans from Towne Acres Elementary will teach music.

The cost of the camp is $170, which includes everything except lunch, which the children may bring or purchase in the cafeteria. Register by calling Carlene Eastridge at 423-928-7600 or by e-mail at eastridgemusic@earthlink.net.
