Milligan jazz ensemble presents concert

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 7, 2005) — The Milligan College Jazz Ensemble will present its fall concert on Monday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Seeger Chapel on the campus of Milligan College.

The 25 piece ensemble is under the direction of Rick Simerly, Milligan College associate professor of music.

“We are really looking forward to this concert,” said Simerly. “Our concert selections are a lot of fun to perform and we hope hearing these arrangements and songs of various jazz styles will make for an enjoyable evening of music. We’ve even added a jazz arrangement of Sesame Street to delight our youngest audience member.”

The ensemble consists of Milligan College students, high school and college students and adults from throughout the region. A variety of songs will be performed from the libraries of Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

Outstanding ensemble soloists that will be featured are: Mark Thie on piano; Daniel Lockhart, Dick Davis and Danny Williams on saxophone; Luke Rogers on trombone; Kelly Scollin, Jason Bailey, Jacob Pitts and Kevin White on trumpet; Alex King on guitar; and Eddie Dalton and Jerry Gannaway on drums.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the music office at 461-8723.
