Milligan professor to teach in international business program

MILLIGAN COLLEGE , TN (February 9, 2005) — How are things different in European economies? Dr. Bill Greer, professor of economics and business at Milligan College, will examine that topic this summer as he teaches in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia and Germany as part of the International Business Institute (IBI).

His course, comparative economic systems, will specifically examine the Scandinavian and Russian economies as he travels to Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Heidelberg.

“The global economy is becoming increasingly integrated and it is important for college students in the U.S. to have a solid grasp of international issues, including cultural, social, economic and political differences,” said Dr. Greer.

The IBI is a cooperative overseas program in international economics and business designed to give U.S. college students a distinctive opportunity for international study.

“Students are exposed to international business in a way that cannot be duplicated in the classroom alone,” explained Greer. “Academic work is integrated with invaluable cultural opportunities and visits to corporate headquarters, manufacturing plants, governmental and international agencies.”

Milligan’s Area of Business is an affiliate member of IBI, which is endorsed by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Students in the college’s international business program participate in the IBI as part of the Milligan curriculum.

“It is exciting to see people worldwide become increasingly connected. Global business and economics can play a key role in providing Christians with new points of contact and new doors through which to minister to the world,” said Greer, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Tennessee and is the founding director of Milligan’s MBA program.

Greer has been a corporate officer and board member of Silver Creek Technologies, Inc. and serves as the Chief Learning Officer of SysDine Corporation. He is president of the board of directors of the Johnson City Federal Credit Union. His book, “Ethics and Uncertainty,” was published in 2000.
