Help Night to ease FAFSA concerns

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January 4, 2005) —Every year at this time, college-bound students and their parents sit down to answer important questions about family finances on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As the primary tool used by colleges across the country to award need-based aid, the FAFSA ultimately determines how much a family will pay for a student’s college education.

A FAFSA Help Night will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, to assist area students and parents in answering these important questions. Milligan College financial aid representatives will be on hand to provide one-on-one counseling concerning the completion of the FAFSA.

The event is free and open to students enrolling in any college during the 2005-2006 academic year. The Help Night is a service provided by the college to the community and specific interest in Milligan College is not required.

“It is very important for students to not to assume affordability until after they have received a financial aid package and talked with admissions and financial aid staff at each college in which they are interested,” said Becky Brewster, director of student financial services at Milligan College.

Student and parents are encouraged to bring their 2004 tax information and other financial materials that will help the staff in providing guidance. All information will remain confidential.

The event will be held in the Fireside Lounge of the McMahan Student Center at Milligan College and is a drop-in event, from 4-7:30 p.m. For more information, please call 423.461.8949 or email milligansfs@milligan.edu.
