Milligan College Homecoming announced


“ A Musical Homecoming” will feature students, alumni, and the JC Symphony Orchestra

MILLIGAN COLLEGE , TN (October 20, 2004)— Milligan College will host its annual Homecoming this weekend, Oct. 22-23, on the college’s campus near Elizabethton. Hundreds of alumni, parents, students and friends of the college are expected to visit the Tri-Cities and attend the weekend’s many events.

There are many opportunities throughout the weekend for alumni and friends of the college to visit with classmates, faculty members and friends, as well as hear and see the progress and vision of the college.

Eleven alumni will be honored and recognized for notable achievements Friday evening, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Celebrate Milligan dinner. An ice cream social will follow at 8:30 p.m. in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The festivities on Friday night will also include the Milligan Men’s soccer team vs. Bethel College game at 7 p.m.

Alumni can visit and reminisce with their faculty mentors at the Faculty-Alumni Gathering in the second floor lobby of Derthick from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Students and alumni have several opportunities to participate in various athletic events on Saturday morning, including a 5K Run/2.5K Walk at 9 a.m., and the annual Alumni vs. Students Football Game at 10 a.m. At 2 p.m., soccer alumni will go head–to-head with the junior varsity men and women soccer teams. The Lady Buffs soccer team will take on Cumberland University at 4 p.m. and the Buffs will battle Cumberland at 7 p.m.

One of the main attractions on Saturday is the fourth annual Homecoming Parade at 2 p.m., featuring floats representing student organizations. The parade route will follow the main road through campus. Inflatable attractions will be set up next to the tennis courts from 1-4 p.m. for children.  Also available for children, the Milligan College Theatre for Young Audiences will perform at 3 p.m. in the tent on the Commons.

Saturday’s schedule is also busy with reunions for the classes of 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999.

Saturday evening will feature the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in concert along with over 70 members of the Milligan College concert choir and alumni choir. This year is the first-ever official choir reunion.

Numbers include Handel’s “Hallelujah, Amen,” Brahms’ “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place,” Vaughan Williams’ “Antiphon,” and Roger and Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Tenor Frank Little will accompany the event as well.

Coffee and live music will also be available in SUB -7 in the McMahan Student Center at 8 p.m. Saturday evening.

All meal events and the feature event are ticketed events. All other events are free. The Alumni Office asks that all alumni register in the McMahan Student Center on Friday or Saturday.
