National healthcare spokesman to present commencement address

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (December 9, 2003) — Seventy-one students will receive degrees this Friday, Dec. 12, at Milligan’s winter commencement ceremonies in Seeger Chapel at 7 p.m. The 71 graduates include 43 bachelor of science degrees, 13 bachelor of arts and 15 master of science in occupational therapy degrees.

Dr. David Stevens, author of “Jesus, MD” and executive director of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), will provide the commencement address. Stevens holds degrees from Asbury College and the University of Louisville School of Medicine and is board certified in family practice. He also earned a master’s degree in bioethics from Trinity International University.

At CMDA, a national organization of Christian doctors that seeks to change hearts in healthcare, Stevens has helped develop an evangelism training program that teaches thousands of doctors and others how to share their faith in a healthcare setting. He has also helped launch a nationwide network of community-based ministries that provide on-site discipleship, fellowship and outreach opportunities for local doctors and medical and dental students.

As a leading spokesman for Christian doctors, Stevens has conducted hundreds of media interviews, including NBC’s “Today Show,” “NBC Nightly News,” BBC-World Television, Newsweek, JAMA, USA Today, “CNN Sunday Morning,” “CNN News Site” and National Public Radio. He has also appeared on Focus on the Family, FOX Family Channel, PAX-Television, Tech TV, The Odyssey Channel, America’s Health Network and many other national outlets. Prior to becoming a Zondervan author, he wrote a regular health column for the Promise Keepers’ New Man magazine and served on the editorial board of Christian Single magazine.

An alumni reception for family and friends of the graduates hosted by the Milligan College Alumni Association will be held in the George Walker Auditorium in the lower level of Seeger Chapel immediately after the commencement exercises.
