Ministry unveils new website to help youth find their calling

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 12, 2003) —What does it matter? What am I going to do with my life? The quest for meaning in one’s life is one of the most urgent of questions, especially for teenagers. One local ministry, Youth in Ministry (YiM), is helping teens find answers to the questions about their futures through a newly updated website.

A partnership of Milligan College and Emmanuel School of Religion, YiM’s website,www.youthinministry.org, offers teens a place to find answers to challenging questions on how to respond to culture and how to grow in their faith and personal relationship with God.

“New web resources will help teens discover their spiritual gifts and social styles, explore ministry by learning from adult servant-leaders in ministry positions, examine spiritual disciplines through weekly devotions, and consider various ways to respond to God’s call by reading testimonials of Christians who have followed God’s call in their careers,” explained YiM director Phyllis Fox.

Fox explains that the mission of YiM is central to the mission of Milligan and Emmanuel.

“Both Milligan and Emmanuel were founded with the idea that Christian faith can and should be applied in every facet of our lives – whether a pastor, physician, business leader, teacher, counselor or musician. So YiM is designed to help teens see their career choice as an opportunity for ministry and service. The question ‘Why I am?’ is answered in terms of one’s calling,” said Fox.

In addition to www.youthinministry.org, YiM offers a week-long summer conference and a variety of workshops and youth rallies throughout the year to help teens explore the challenging questions of life.

“I discovered that God does have a unique plan for my future; now I want to pursue what He has in store for me,” said David Miles, a teen from Kernersville, N.C. who attended a YiM workshop this past year.

This Sunday, Nov. 16, YiM will sponsor the teen program at the East Tennessee Christian Convention at Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, from 4 to 8 p.m. Youth will participate in worship and prayer, and there will be several recreational activities of fun and fellowship.

“Every Christian is a minister and has spiritual gifts that can be used in various professions to make a positive impact on the world,” said Fox. “Our website, along with the many workshops, conferences and activities give teens the opportunity to learn God’s desire in their lives.”

YiM was launched by Milligan and Emmanuel in 2002 and is funded by the Lilly Endowment of Indiana. For more information, please contact Phyllis Fox, director of YiM, at 423-975-8021 or visit www.youthinministry.org.
