Milligan College holds summer commencement

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (July 28, 2003) – Milligan College summer commencement exercises will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 10 a.m. The 38 graduates include three bachelor of arts (B.A.) degrees, nine bachelor of science (B.S.) degrees from the adult degree completion program (A.D.C.P.), and 26 master of education (M.Ed.) degrees.

Dr. John O’Dell, director of Sullivan County Schools, will present the commencement address. O’Dell has dedicated more than three decades of his life to education in the public school arena, providing effective training and exemplary service to the 13,000 school families of Sullivan County Schools.

O’Dell, who received the First Tennessee District Superintendent’s Study Council Award in 2000, has served on numerous community organizations and boards.

Milligan’s A.D.C.P. program is designed to meet the needs of working adults who want to obtain a B.S. in business administration. Classes meet once a week and completing the major takes approximately 18 months.

The M.Ed. program enables students to complete a master’s degree and teacher licensure requirements in approximately 15 months. An advanced program allows current teachers to add endorsement areas or achieve national board certification. Milligan’s M.Ed. program is approved by the Tennessee Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

An alumni reception for family and friends of the graduates will be held in the lower floor of Seeger Memorial Chapel immediately after the commencement exercises. The reception is sponsored by the Milligan College Alumni Office.
