Choral Union presents “Prayer for Peace”

Fitting performance day after fighting in Iraq declared over

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 2, 2003) – Milligan College and local musicians will present a prayer for peace at the college’s annual community Choral Union performance tonight, May 2, at 7:30 p.m.

Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Grant to us Peace) is a fitting performance the day after President Bush declared major fighting in Iraq is over, explained John Wakefield, chair of music at Milligan and conductor of the Milligan College concert choir.

“This performance is a wonderful prayer for peace,” said Wakefield, who explained that the text of the “Dona Nobis Pacem” is from biblical scripture and from Walt Whitman poetry of the American Civil War.

Milligan’s Choral Union is an annual end-of the-school-year event with combined choirs, orchestra, and singers from the community. Guest musicians include soloists Lauren Webb and Brian Bolzenthal. Dr. Bert Allen and Grant Foster will present visual and oral presentations as part of the performance.

The Choral Union performance is Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel on the Milligan campus. The concert is free and open to the community.
