Local college students gather

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 11, 2003) – While war wages in Iraq, college students from throughout the Tri-Cities will gather Tuesday evening, April 15, on the campus of Milligan College to pray and worship together as a generation that has the potential to make a huge difference in our world’s future.

“Passion-Palooza” is an evening celebration session for students from Milligan, Tusculum, King, Virginia Intermont, Northeast State, East Tennessee State University and Emmanuel School of Religion. The local event will promote Passion’s “One Day 2003,” a Memorial Day Weekend conference in Sherman, Texas, where thousands of college-age students from throughout the United States will gather for a four day conference. Over the last several years, Passion’s conferences have attracted tens of thousands of college students.

“The unique purpose of Passion is to gather college students from campuses and churches across the nation, uniting them across ministry and denominational lines to seek the face of God together in worship and prayer,” said Louie Giglio, director and founder of Passion Conferences.
Some 30,000 students are expected to attend the conference this year. Milligan’s “Passion-Palooza” for local college students will provide registration information and promote attendance at the Memorial Day Weekend conference in Texas.

“In the next 10 years, it is our generation – a generation that many are calling ‘lost’ – that will be making the big decisions affecting this nation and our world,” said Katie Massey, a member of Milligan’s Passion Committee. “This is an opportunity for us to unite and be renewed in our purpose and our passion for serving God, whatever we do.”

So far 17 Milligan students are registered to attend the OneDay 2003 festival. Milligan’s campus ministry is providing transportation and housing for those students interested in attending the event. The Passion Committee hopes many more college students from the Tri-Cities region will register Tuesday night to attend the May event.

Tuesday’s “Passion-Palooza” will be held at 7 p.m. on Pardee Lawn on the Milligan campus. Worship will be led by Brian Davis, a student at Emmanuel School of Religion, and Josh Helms of Tusculum College will speak. The event is free and open to college-age students in the Tri-Cities region. No registration is necessary for Tuesday’s event.
