Milligan Wellness Fair promotes healthy lifestyle for students

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 27, 2003) – Students, faculty and staff will be able to take part in free tests and demonstrations, including skin cancer screenings, visual and glaucoma screenings and massage therapy demonstrations, at the Wellness Fair 2003 on Thursday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Milligan Student Center.

Over 20 local groups and organizations will represent important health topics, such as vegan nutrition, traditional nutrition, hazards of tobacco, sexual assault response, beauty and skin care, safe tanning, and diabetes education. There will also be an opportunity to get a Coronary Risk Panel from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at a discounted cost of $10 per person.

“Wellness is the key to students’ physical and psychological performance,” said Dianne Burrow, Milligan’s clinic nurse. “This will be a good forum to introduce wellness topics important to our everyday lives.”

The Student Government Association will sponsor an on-campus blood drive from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the college’s nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, athletic departments, and campus ministry will be represented with topic-related booths.

Door prizes at the event include free memberships to the Johnson City Fitness Center and the Johnson City Wellness Center, free natural manicures from Natural Nailcare Clinic, a free body massage from Piney Flats Chiropractic Center, a bicycle helmet from Norris Schwinn Bicycles, and a large fruit basket from Krogers. The grand prize will be a bicycle from Two Wheel Transit Bicycles of Johnson City.
