Family Weekend Begins Friday

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 10, 2003) -The annual Milligan College Family Weekend will kick off Valentine’s Day, Friday, Feb. 14. The weekend is planned by the sophomore class officers and is a time for students to give their families a taste of college life and an opportunity to sightsee in the Northeast Tennessee Region.

On Friday, an Honors Recital of select Milligan instrumentalists and vocalists performing in Seeger Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Optional registration for Family Weekend will be in the Student Center from 3 to 7 p.m. and all dorms will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Family Weekend activities resume on Saturday, Feb. 15, as the students named to the Fall 2002 Dean’s List will be honored at a ceremony in Seeger Chapel at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. reception in Lower Seeger. Also planned for Saturday, guest artist Tim Bruneau, a former student from Louisville, Ky., will exhibit his paintings in the art gallery of Derthick Hall from 2 to 4 p.m.

Families are welcome to dine in the cafeteria from 10:30 to 12:30 for Saturday brunch, before heading to the baseball field to cheer on the Milligan baseball team as they take on Brevard College at 1 p.m. Also at 1 p.m. is a parent information session, followed by a faculty/parent reception at 3 p.m. in Derthick Hall. The bookstore will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday events will conclude with the women and men’s basketball teams challenging conference opponent Union College at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., respectively, and open mic performances in SUB 7 Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. in the Student Center. And all dorms are open again from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Families are encouraged to attend Sunday worship services at area churches with their students. The baseball team will play another home game against Brevard College at 2 p.m. Family Weekend will conclude with a vespers service in Lower Seeger Chapel at 9 p.m. Sunday.
