Milligan and ETSU theatre departments partner for fall production

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Aug. 2, 2002) – The Milligan College Theatre Department and the East Tennessee State University Division of Theatre will team this fall to present a collaborative production of Oedipus the King by Sophocles.

Richard Major, professor of theatre at Milligan, will direct the Oedipus production.

“This collaboration has great educational value for both institutions,” said Major. “It gives students from different programs a chance to work with a different director and students.”

Both institutions have long traditions of producing quality productions. The collaborative production of Oedipus promises to be equally excellent.

The Oedipus staff will include scenic design by Melissa Shafer, assistant professor of theatre at ETSU; costume and mask design by Karen Brewster, assistant professor of theatre at ETSU; lighting design by Scott Hardy of Light Impressions in Johnson City; sound design by free lance sound artist Scott Koenig; and the stage manager is Jonathan Taylor, an ETSU student.

The Oedipus cast will include guest artist Paul Blowers, professor of church history at Emmanuel School of Religion, as Teiresias.

Auditions for those affiliated with Milligan College will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Milligan College in Derthick Hall 306C. Auditions for the community or those affiliated with East Tennessee State University will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at ETSU in the Bud Frank Theatre located in Gilbreath Hall.
