Massey Electric makes donation to Derthick project

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 24, 2002) —Massey Electric, with offices in Knoxville and Kingsport, has made a $15,000 donation to Milligan College and the Derthick Hall renovation project, announced Milligan President Donald R. Jeanes.

Massey Electric was one of the contractors for the Derthick project, explained Jeanes. They also did electrical work on the installation of a new HVAC system in Hart Hall, one of three women’s dormitories on the Milligan campus.

“They have a very strong appreciation for Christian higher education and wanted to give back,” said Jeanes. “We appreciate their partnership, and their friendship to the college.”

Massey Electric is a 45-year old commercial electric contracting company that has performed over 12,000 installations in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and South Carolina. Massey representatives Jody Hood, vice president of Tri-Cities division, and Jim Buchanan, COO of the Knoxville main office, presented the company’s donation to Jeanes last week.

The funds will be applied to the $2.5 million renovation of Derthick Hall, completed last fall. The renovation involved gutting the entire interior of the facility and re-bricking the exterior. A new HVAC system, reconfigured walls for classroom space, new windows, and a new lecture hall were created.

Derthick Hall is the college’s main classroom facility and occupies the site of the college’s original brick building erected in 1867. The current building was built in 1919 and remodeled in the late 1970s. Today the building houses classrooms, several administrative and faculty offices, a lecture hall and computer and language laboratories.
