Jacob McGlamery
Assistant Professor of Counseling
Jacob McGlamery, Assistant Professor of Counseling at Milligan University, is a counselor-educator and clinician who integrates evidence-based practice, human development, and Christ-centered formation. He views counseling as a calling to cultivate resilience, dignity, and agency while teaching students to think ethically, work skillfully, and serve with compassion.
A two-time Milligan graduate with a BS in Psychology and an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Professor McGlamery is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC/MHSP). He has practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, anger, attachment injuries, addictions, grief, and behavioral challenges.
His scholarly interests include human development across the lifespan, child and adolescent counseling, therapeutic tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), group process, and faith integration. He regularly presents on these topics and is developing research on resilience, shame and guilt, and self-forgiveness in emerging adults.
Romans 12:15–21 (NRSV) informs Professor McGlamery’s approach to both teaching and clinical practice: rejoicing and weeping with others, cultivating humility and hospitality, and pursuing peacemaking without resorting to vengeance. Its charge anchors his pedagogy and supervision: “Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.” Milligan’s Christ-centered mission enables him to combine rigorous clinical training with a servant-hearted approach.
Professor McGlamery’s favorite part of serving at Milligan is watching students grow, find their voice, sharpen their craft, and learn to love their neighbors well through counseling. He finds deep fulfillment in guiding students as they develop both professionally and spiritually.
